If you followed along with our social media accounts in 2021, then you already know we had a fantastic trip to Costa Rica last spring. In March, our founder Nolan, and his family, traveled to the southern coast to spend two months connecting with the locals and establishing West Coast Rescue as a resource for the area. Adam also made the trip down for several training days.

Our main contacts in CR were the Costa Ballena Guardavidas - the lifeguards that monitor the Hermosa and Dominical beaches. Thanks to your donations, we took them a lot of needed medical supplies and items that are hard to get, but greatly help them with their work. Everything from gauze, to triangle bandages, splints, whistles and, our signature, tourniquets! We also took tourniquets for the trainings we had with Uvita Christian Academy students. Hemorrhage control and CPR were the main focus of both trainings.

The lifeguards even took time out of their workday to teach us a few things about performing a rescue in the ocean. Every, single, day, these lifeguards are out there, interpreting what the water is telling them and warning visitors of dangers they might not recognize on their own. Sometimes, despite all of their effort, the job demands even more from them. Sand flying behind their feet as they run along the shore, into the water, and swim with everything they have, knowing instinctively what comes next, thanks to their rescue training.

Savings lives rarely happens by chance. It happens because good people recognize threats, prepare for the worst and take action when necessary. Thank you for continuing to partner with us, so that we can come alongside and support those taking ACTION in their communities!
